If someone merely “talked” you into Christianity, somebody else can “talk” you out of it. In addition, regeneration is not due to inheritance. For example, just because mom and dad are Christian, does not mean children are Christian. Christian conversion is not simply about intellectual persuasion. Although faith comes by hearing (Rom. 10:17), it does not negate the experience of the living God coming to live inside you. Indeed, Jesus says,
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”(John 17:3).
The term “know” being used in Greek is “ginóskó”, which means to know especially through personal experience, “experientially know”.
Experiencing the power of God through regeneration (John 3:6-8; Titus 3:5) is similar to a woman having a baby. When she has a child, she can describe the agony and pain she experienced while birthing the baby. Nobody can persuade her that she didn’t birth the child. Why? Because she has the child! That mother’s life will be changed forevermore.
It is no different when it comes to being born-again. When the Spirit comes to live inside of you–you know. One should not say, “I don’t know if He did or not?” Why? Because you begin to develop hungers and passions for God which were non-existent before. Indeed, you also begin to hate the sin you once committed and etc. This is experiencing the “rebirth”. As the mother who gave birth, life changes–the person who has been “birthed” by the Spirit life changes.
So have you TRULY come to “know” Jesus? Or does your faith merely consist of the intellect?
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:6-8)
