When you hear the phrase “faith in Jesus”, what do you think of? I believe this triggers many to think of faith as something along the lines of “wishful thinking” or at the very least, “hoping that what we believe about Jesus is true”.
This is not the essence of faith. Faith in Jesus is as tangible as 1+1=2. We don’t “hope” 1+1=2 is true. We unapologetically “know” 1+1=2 is true. We don’t blindly say, 1+1=2 is true. We can show by presenting evidence showing 1+1=2 is true. How does the tangible reality of Jesus show up? I’ll share with you a few clues from my personal experience in this article.
16 years ago I was a person who loved to drink, fornicate, party, use profane language, and didn’t have a thought about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Then suddenly one day I wake up in the morning feeling the guilt from all my wrongdoing and is led to repent of my sin (wrongdoing) and ask God for forgiveness. Soon after, in my innermost being, I couldn’t help the urge to read the Bible, study Christian books, get rid of the filthy music I was listening to (hip-hop), stop fornicating, partying, drinking, smoking, cussing, and etc. It was though it was a power working inside of me that gradually kept feeding these urges. It was not a human being telling me to do these things, nor was it me trying to “will myself” to be something I wasn’t—it was God’s grace working through a supernatural born-again creature (2 Cor. 5:17).
As the years went by, the Lord even gave me the grace to be used in deliverance ministry. Seeing demons being cast out of people! I never thought in a million years I would even come close to doing such a thing. Nonetheless, the tangible event of seeing demons cast out freeing people from all sorts of problems is awesome. However, what is more eye-popping is how this reveals the reality of Jesus Christ. It was/is not by my piety that demons are cast out. It is not by my strength/power that demons are cast out. It is only by the reality and power of the Person of Jesus Christ! Just as we read about in the New Testament.
Nevertheless, that is my experience with Jesus. I rather appeal to the objective historical evidence of his reality. Take some time seek Him through His Word and prayer and rejoice at how great He is!
