Many women dress seductively to allure a man. This need to draw attention may stem from feeling unwanted, or simply a desire to be desired. Indeed, some may have become so deceived by cultural trends that they don’t even realize what they are doing. Let me let you in on a secret…
Whenever a woman displays herself in a seductive manner for public consumption, she is not appealing to a man’s heart, she is appealing to his flesh. Let me explain what I mean by “flesh” and “heart”.
Flesh— The dead portion of man’s nature. This aspect of man’s nature craves lust, perversions, immorality, etc. It is naturally opposed to any virtue. Nine times out of ten this type of man will not be faithful in a relationship or will leave one for another when his flesh desires someone else. As Paul describes it,
“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law, indeed, it cannot…” (Rom. 8:7)
”Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality…” (Gal. 6:19)
Heart/spirit—The affective center of our being, where are moral preference is found. Whether you are a believer or an unbeliever, this is the place where we make moral decisions. The core of the person can be shaped by many different environmental factors, some good and some bad.
The good would be the individual becoming regenerated by the Spirit of God (Eze. 36:26-27; John 3:3-8). This is when the Spirit of God comes into man/woman and gives them increased sensitivity to honor God (through Jesus Christ) and to live a virtuous life. The bad is when a person is exposed to all different forms of evil (immorality, pornography, violence, etc) which stirs the flesh and begins to pursue a lifestyle of the sort.
Are you following me?
So let’s say you are an attractive woman who is single. You feel you are not receiving attention the way you would like. You are lonely and decide to go out for a night of “fun”. You pick out one of your most seductive outfits (cleavage-revealing and other “parts” exposed as well) with the hopes of getting the attention of a man of your choosing, or just hoping to quench the desire for attention.
I can guarantee you will get the temporary attention of MANY men. I don’t have to be a prophet to tell you that. I can tell you that because you will appeal to those men’s flesh. Although you will get the attention of many, you will inevitably be linking up with a “dead man” (Eph. 2:1) By the way, dead men “stink”. They may not stink physically, but spiritually they are the stench of a rotting corpse.
A man that has been made alive to God by the Spirit (Rom. 6), will not desire a woman who displays herself in a lascivious manner. Sure, his flesh may be tempted due to its deadness, however, his spirit will not want anything to do with her because he knows she is in the flesh. And if you are in the flesh, you are dead (Rom. 8:6).
I encourage you to be introspective and honest. If there is lack in your inner life, it may point to your lack of eternal life. Eternal life is not just about going to heaven. It’s about coming into union with Jesus Christ (John 17:3). He gives you power to put to death the desires of the flesh and gives you power and passion to walk in virtue.
As Solomon says, “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion” (Prov. 11:22).
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised” (Prov. 31:30).
