Within our culture there is much talk about self-esteem. However, is the issue of self-esteem merely based on how we feel about ourselves or how we feel about God?
Scripture tells us, “God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Gen. 1:27)
First, if we let the above text sink in, that is, “Being made in the image and likeness of God.” Keep in mind we are the only creatures that have been given such a privilege. How amazed should we be to be stamped with God’s image and likeness?!?!
Be that as it may, many still struggle with the issue of esteem. However, since we are made in the image and likeness of God, is the root problem our confidence/esteem in God?
Think about the many lies our culture has spoken to tear down who we truly are as people. From the lie of evolution that revokes being made in God’s image, to the lie that says beauty is what the culture determines which is the penthouse centerfold model, and etc. All of this places the focus on man and not God, which I believe creates a void of “low self-esteem”.
However, on the other hand, what if we truly believed we are God’s handiwork and we have been created to enjoy and glorify Him? Emotionally, His joy would become our joy. His excitement will become our excitement. His mission will become our mission. Essentially, the focus will not be on our “esteem” it will be on His glory.
Think on these things and begin to position yourself to enjoy your Creator while putting to death all feelings of inferiority.
“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isa. 43:7)
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psa. 37:4)
