“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul” (Lev. 17:11).

The ol’ adage “there is power in the blood” is not a mere cliché or religious saying–it is a practical reality.  Are you familiar with the story found in 2 Kings 3? In short, Israel and Judah had formed alliances to fight against the nation of Moab. Initially, they were winning the battle. However, when Moab was being defeated, the king of Moab decided to do the following,

“Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land” (2 Kings 3:27).

When the king of Moab slaughtered his son as a human sacrifice it seemingly energized the demonic which, therefore led to the defeating/fleeing of Israel.

To this day, the occult utilizes animal/human sacrifices to tap into demonic power. Indeed, abortion is a form of human sacrifice that energizes demonic power, which brings forth further darkness in our land. Why do witches, sorcerers, warlocks, and in general pagans, indulge in blood sacrifice? Because it is power in the blood! Why is there such resistance to end abortion from groups who support abortion? On the surface, many will say they have a “right or choice” to do what they want with their body (by the way this is a form a lawlessness). However, behind the scenes, the powers of darkness gain strength and power by humans committing such acts (Psalms 106:37-38). So you see the fight to end abortion is not merely a physical issue–it is a spiritual issue.

On the other hand, we see the power of the blood when it comes to Jesus “shedding his blood” for His Church. By Jesus shedding His blood it unleashed an infinite amount of power to defeat the powers of darkness and to take away all sin (Romans 3:25)!! Hence, we can even gain a clue from the power of the blood that Jesus shed when we take communion. Paul noted that some had even died because they drank the cup and ate the bread in an “unworthy” manner (1 Cor. 11:27-29).

In saying all this, meditate on how powerful the blood of Jesus is and begin to pray and intercede against those who commit human sacrifice through the occult or abortion. May we see the Lord work against all of the innocent blood that is being shed to energize the powers of darkness.  And apply the blood of Jesus to usher in a righteousness that comes from above.
